I propose that we officially recognize rhythm as the language of the universe–and before I begin, in full disclosure, let me admit that the hunt for rhythm and the things it can express draw me to language daily. Still I contend, rhythm is the language of the universe. What you would do well, do under rhythm’s spell.
Every substance in existence seems to have its own frequency. A heart that loses its rhythm can literally lead to death; too fast or too slow a pulse and we don’t function. In the breath and in the blood, in the muscles and the nerve cells, rhythm rules. The earth turns rhythmically; the sea moves in the steady beat of its conversation with the moon. The clocks of seasons unlock life’s cycles, all timing and flow, call and response.
